Welcome to Ledyard Middle School

Welcome to the Ledyard Middle School webpage. It is my sincere hope that you find it to be helpful and informative. As you peruse the site whether it be seeking a particular piece of information, or to find out more about our learning community and our offerings, please feel free at any time to provide feedback. It is a goal here at LMS to better serve our students and families, and to make all feel connected and integral to the education of our children.

The school year is off to a fantastic start. Our new schedule is running smoothly, and all of our programs are being received by the students with eagerness and enthusiasm. It is surely going to be a good one! As you can imagine, we have a number of areas of emphasis that will consume a substantial amount of our attention and focus this year. Among these are the following:

-Identify and implement leadership opportunities for staff via curriculum work and professional development activities.

-Improve communication with families via the school website, teacher websites, and social media.

-Expand technology offerings/opportunities for students.

-Enhance learning opportunities in all content areas by incorporating the “4 C’s” (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration).

-Revise the social studies curriculum to align with new standards.

In addition to these goals, we here at LMS are always mindful of the overall experience our students have. As such, we are continually promoting and attending to the development of the “whole” child, and seeking ways to meet each and every student where s/he is. Our students come first, and our staff is second to none. Ledyard Middle School truly is an amazing place to be, and I am honored and proud to serve a community as committed to its kids as Ledyard.

8th Grade promotion Ceremony:

May 16, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Successfully completing middle school is a very exciting time in your son or daughter’s life. In recognizing their accomplishments, we will be holding the Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony on Thursday, June 13, 2019 here at Ledyard Middle School.

The evening will begin at 5:00 p.m. with our promotion ceremony in the gymnasium. At the conclusion of the program, there will be a dinner for students and staff. Following dinner, there will be a dance for the eighth graders from 7:00-9:00p.m.  Parents and guests will leave following the ceremony. Students should be picked up at 9:00p.m.

Next week, you will be receiving an invitation for the Promotion Ceremony that will be sent home with your child.  The invitation will include a response that is due back NO LATER than May 31st. This returned invitation will act as your child’s permission slip for the dance. Due to our limited space, and fire code restrictions, only two people will be able to attend the ceremony with each eighth grade student.

Many of the students are asking what they should wear for the evening. This is not a formal occasion. We recommend that boys wear dress pants and a nice shirt (tie is optional); girls should wear a nice outfit/dress. To be in accordance with our school dress code, girls whose dresses are strapless or have spaghetti straps must wear a shawl or light-weight sweater top to cover their shoulders.

On behalf of the faculty here at Ledyard Middle School, we all look forward to making this a very memorable night for your child. All of our eighth grade students are well deserving of this recognition for their accomplishments over the past two years. We are all very proud of each of their successes. They will be a welcomed gift to any high school that they have chosen to attend.

As always, please contact one of us if you have any questions.

PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES- Parent / Teacher conferences will be Thursday, March 21st from 1:00-3:00 and then again from 5:00-7:00. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested to come in and visit with any and all of your child’s teachers for roughly ten minutes per teacher to hear about how s/he is doing in her/his classes. There are no scheduled visits. Parents/guardians are encouraged conference with the teachers of their choice. If someone is there ahead of you, please wait your turn, and the teacher will be able to meet with you within a short amount of time. In order to ensure all parents have time to meet with as many teachers as desired, please limit your time to ten minutes. In the event the conversation requires more time, please feel free to use a portion of your time to schedule a follow-up meeting individually. This will keep lines moving at a reasonable pace as well as ensuring everyone receives the appropriate attention.
