BACK TO SCHOOL  NIGHT- Thank you all who were able to make it to our “Back to School Night” last night. This is an event I look forward to every year because it’s always great to meet so many people. I sincerely hope you found it to be helpful and informative. As you were able to experience to just a small degree we have so many great things going on here at LMS, and the programs we are able to provide our kids are pretty remarkable. And what’s more is that these programs are being taught by some pretty amazing and caring individuals. I am confident that this was very evident throughout the building. Please don’t hesitate to contact anyone of us should you have any unanswered questions or if any concerns arise. Your input and participation is critical to the success of our kids.

CHROMEBOOKS- Students whose parents completed the orientation and parent acceptance procedures on-line (or via hard copy) were given their chromebooks today. In a small number of cases where parents completed these last night while attending “Back to School Night” it is possible your child did not receive his/hers. Please rest assured that we do have the most current list and will be sure those students receive theirs Monday. For those who have yet to complete these please follow this link so we can get a chromebook in your child’s hands: https://sites.google.com/a/ledyard.net/ledyard-gafe/home/chromebooks

CYCLING CLUB- Cycling Club will be meeting every Monday and Wednesday until 4:00. Cyclists should be prepared to ride with bikes, helmets, snacks and a water bottle. Waivers must be signed in order to ride. It's not too late to join. Please contact Mrs. Kristen Gallagher at [email protected] for more information.

MATHCOUNTS- The first meeting of Mathcounts will be Monday, September 18th after school in Mrs. Hanselman's room.  We will meet from 2:05-3:30. Mathcounts is a program sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. We work on challenging math problems and compete with other schools as a team. This program is open to any interested student, however, for inter-scholastic competitions we will send one team of our top four students. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Cheryl Hanselman at [email protected] for more information.

PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD- The Prudential Spirit of Community Award is America’s largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. It recognizes students who have made meaningful volunteering services to their communities.

Students who have participated in community service activities over the past year are invited to fill out an online application at spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spirit by November 7th. The application may then be submitted to Mr. Pomroy. The school’s top volunteer (if he/she has met a minimum number of volunteer hours) will become eligible to win $1,000 and an all-expense paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C.

LIB-GUIDE- Our Library-Media Specialist, Mrs. Kathleen Smith has created a link on the LMS webpage that is very helpful to anyone who is doing research for any kind of project or just out of curiosity. Please feel free to check it out by clicking on library from the LMS web page. This link serves as a hub of all the links students need on one website and they are organized by school subjects.
