UPDATED FOR SPRING 2025
Please see important information below regarding the transition to middle school; specifically answers to parent questions and concerns, virtual tour website link, and student welcome videos to watch.
Good afternoon Grade 5 parents/ guardians,
The transition and preparation for middle school can be a difficult time as the dependence of elementary school merges with the preparation for the independence of high school. The Ledyard Middle School recognizes this needed balance and begins the transition to middle school by first soliciting questions and concerns from YOU as to form the foundation of my communication in the future. The transition program will include student visits to LMS (5/28), end of the year Principal’s Presentation for incoming students and parents (early June), continual emails with information and important dates (virtual tours), and an Open House for student and parents at the end of August.
I invite you to begin this process by completing the survey/form below, then reviewing student health information, and also the chorus/ band enrollment info below.

Physical Examinations: Per Connecticut State Regulations and the Ledyard Board of Education students are required to have a current Physical Examination.
Immunizations: Per Connecticut State Regulations: Meningococcal and Tdap
Please submit your student’s updated immunization record to the Health Office. Please email, fax or deliver updated Physicals to LMS as soon as they are available.

Chorus or Band Enrollment:
Ledyard Middle School music department offers two classes in which students can elect to register: Chorus or Band. If a student does not participate in these courses, then they will be registered into a General Music class during their time at the middle school. The school will communicate with elementary school music teachers to support student participation at the middle school in Chorus or Band, but I am seeking parental input at this time so that we can begin to finalize the master schedule for next year. Please complete the form below if your child is interested in participating in Chorus or Band.

School Counselor Information:
As the spring progresses, the incoming class at LMS will participate in “Welcome to Middle School” lessons at both elementary schools presented by their LMS School/Guidance Counselor- Mrs. Amber Merwin. She is planning on bringing current LMS students to support her lessons during the first week of May. She will be your child’s counselor for their entire time at Ledyard Middle School. Her contact information is [email protected].
We look forward to a successful transition to middle school and we will continue to be in communication throughout this process.
